The Biggest and Most Real Abortion Flip-Flops

But don't expect the press to report this. Talk about straining at a gnat with this week's reportings!

Partial Birth Abortions

Against Born Alive Provision

2001: State Senator Obama votes against "Born Alive" bill that required medical attention for a baby that survived an abortion and was born alive.

In 2002, a federal "Born Alive" law went into effect (passing the House 380-15 in 2000), which was not even opposed by NARAL (National Abortion Rights Action League).

In 2003, State Sen. Obama voted against the "Born Alive" bill again, but in 2005 it passed the state legislature.

(The law was promoted because the aborted baby sometimes lives/suffers for hours.)

2001: In arguing against the "Born Alive" bill, State Sen. Obama stated:

"This puts the burden on the attending physician... if that fetus or child, however you want to describe it, is now outsite the mother's womb... but let's say there's movement or some indication that in fact, they're not just coming out limp and dead...

"The only plausible rationale to my mind, for this legislation would be... if the physician discovered after the labor had been induced that in fact he made an error... that that physician, of his own accord or her own accord would not try to exercise the sort of medical measures and practices involved in saving that child...

"[This] is really designed simply to burden the orginal decision of the woman and the physician... I think it's important to understand that this issue ultimately is about abortion, and not live births."

(Pres. Obama's changing excuses and lies of why he opposed this law - NRLC.org)

For Born Alive Provision

October 2004: “As the Chicago Tribune reported on October 4, 2004, “Obama said that had he been in the U.S. Senate two years ago, he would have voted for the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act, even though he voted against a state version of the proposal.” ”

For Late-Term Abortions

2003:

OBAMA: “I am pro-choice.”

REPORTER: “In all situations including the late term thing?”

OBAMA: “I am pro-choice. I believe that women make responsible choices and they know better than anybody... I don’t think that it’s the government’s role to meddle in that choice.”

2007:

May 11th, 2007, Sen. Barack Obama Co-Sponsors S.1173, the “Freedom of Choice Act” [FOCA], which legalizes partial birth abortions, overturning any state laws to the contrary.

“The first thing I would do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.”

“The legislation [FOCA] would make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy the national law and overturn hundreds of pro-life laws from partial-birth abortion bans to parental involvement laws in all 50 states.”

Jun 6, 2008:

“Emily's List released a statement today saying it is behind Obama.”

“A candidate must meet three qualifications to be considered for an EMILY’s List endorsement: back abortion rights, including the right to late-term (or ‘partial-birth’) abortions; be a Democrat; and, in primary elections, be a woman.”

Against Late-Term Abortions

Aug 18, 2008:

“Anyone who tries to deny the moral difficulties and gravity of the abortion issue, I think is not paying attention...

“I think we can find common ground...

“I am in favor, for example, of limits for late term abortions. If there are exceptions for the mother's health.”

For Late-Term Abortions Again

April 29, 2009 – Pres. Obama reafirms his support of FOCA:

“The Freedom of Choice Act is not my highest legislative priority. I believe that women should have the right to choose, but I think that the most important thing we can do to tamp down some of the anger surrounding this issue is to focus on those areas that we can agree on.”

Pres. Obama didn't pursue FOCA because he couldn't:

2009 – “FOCA has not been introduced in the current Congress. Versions of it had been introduced in nearly every session of Congress for the last 20 years. Only once, in 1993, did the bill make it as far as being considered by committees. It has never reached the floor of either the House or Senate...

“A nationwide postcard campaign against FOCA and other abortion-related issues was sponsored earlier this year by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops. Many pro-life organizations focused their concerns about FOCA...”

But he found a way to implement FOCA anyway:

“Look at the health care bill in the Senate and see if you see what I see: On abortion, it accomplishes nearly all of what FOCA wanted...

“HEALTH BILL MAKES ABORTION A REGULATORY REQUIREMENT. In the Senate health bill, the federal government provides or requires health insurance that does exactly that...

“HEALTH BILL SIDE-STEPS STATE LAWS...

“FOCA: REQUIRES ABORTION PROMOTION. FOCA would disallow “government programs and facilities that pay for or promote childbirth and other health care without subsidizing abortion,” ... HEALTH BILL REGULATIONS would accomplish precisely that...

“HEALTH BILL ALSO ENDS CONSCIENCE PROTECTION...”

Compare that with what FOCA Attempted:

“FOCA seeks to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law. It would remove all restrictions on abortion in state statutes - including restraints on late-term abortions and parental notification laws. It would also entrench taxpayer funding of abortion. Moreover, it would compel Catholic health-care facilities to provide the heinous procedure.”

Other demonstrations of Pres. Obama's support for partial-birth abortions:

“November 24, 2008 – Obama appoints Ellen Moran, the former director of the pro-abortion group Emily’s List as his White House communications director. Emily’s List only supports candidates who favored taxpayer funded abortions and opposed a partial-birth abortion ban...

“December 10, 2008 – Obama transition team publishes memo from dozens of pro-abortion groups listing their laundry list of pro-abortions actions they want him to take.”

“A coalition of dozens of pro-abortion groups have issued a 55-page memorandum and the web site for the Barack Obama transition team posted it online...

“The pro-abortion directive calls on President Obama to take the lead in calling for Congress to pass the radical Freedom of Choice Act and to sign it into law once it arrives at his desk...

“The legislation [FOCA] would make unlimited abortions throughout pregnancy the national law and overturn hundreds of pro-life laws from partial-birth abortion bans to parental involvement laws in all 50 states.”

“March 11, 2009 [and July 2] – Obama administration promotes an unlimited right to abortion at a United Nations meeting.”

2011 – Emily's List latest endorsement: “Today's fight is at the very heart of our movement. We've come together to re-elect a President... we have to do everything in our power to keep President Barack Obama in the White House... We don't just need to re-elect our President -- we need to send him reinforcements.”

May 2012: “(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama on Tuesday awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom—which he described as “the highest civilian honor this country can bestow"--on retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, who wrote a Supreme Court opinion arguing that a woman was exercising her right to "liberty" when she hired a doctor to kill her child through the procedure known as partial-birth abortion.

“ "That holding--that the word 'liberty' in the Fourteenth Amendment includes a woman’s right to make this difficult and extremely personal decision--makes it impossible for me to understand how a State has any legitimate interest in requiring a doctor to follow any procedure other than the one that he or she reasonably believes will best protect the woman in her exercise of this constitutional liberty," Justice Stevens wrote.”

Sep 2012: “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay. We oppose any and all efforts to weaken or undermine that right... there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way.” — Democrat Party Platform

This was with Pres. Obama in charge of the party and defining the platform, and in spite of pro-life democrats trying “to get the party to ease up on its abortion-at-any-cost plank,” and although a majority of democrats support banning partial birth abortions.

Work Together on Abortion Issue

2008: “I think we can find common ground... [on] how do we reduce the number of abortions? ...

“If you believe that life begins at conception, and you are consistent in that belief, then I can't argue with you on that, because that is a core issue of faith for you.

“What I can do is say, are there ways that we can work together to reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies, so that we actually are reducing, in the sense that women are seeking out abortions...”

Jan 24, 2009: “ "It is time we end the politicization of this issue," Obama said. "In the coming weeks, my administration will initiate a fresh conversation on family planning, working to find areas of common ground to best meet the needs of women and families at home and around the world." ...

“Obama said he had directed his staff "to reach out to those on all sides of this issue to achieve the goal of reducing unintended pregnancies." ”

“I think we can find common ground...

“If you believe that life begins at conception, and you are consistent in that belief, then I can't argue with you on that, because that is a core issue of faith for you.

“What I can do is say, are there ways that we can work together.”

Respect Freedom of Conscience (talk again)

May 17, 2009: “Let’s honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion, and draft a sensible conscience clause, and make sure that all of our health care policies are grounded in clear ethics and sound science, as well as respect for the equality of women,” Obama said.

“In listening to Obama’s speech, bioethics attorney Wesley J. Smith was struck by Obama’s esurient desire to be seen as moderate on abortion...

“ "Perhaps the administration will change from the radical course it has steered to date on these important matters..." he says.”

Sep 10, 2009: "One more misunderstanding I want to clear up — under our plan … federal conscience laws will remain in place," Obama said.

Work to Reduce Abortions (talk)

2008: “One thing that I'm absolutely convinced of is that there is a moral and ethical element to this issue...

“So, so, so, that would be Point Number 1. And Point Number 2 is, I am pro-choice, I believe in Roe verses Wade, and I come to that conclusion not because I'm pro-abortion...

“For me, the goal right now should be, and this is where I think we can find common ground--and by the way, I've inserted this into the democrat party platform--is how do we reduce the number of abortions? ...
